Supportive services for families experiencing homelessness in Monterey County that focus on securing and maintaining permanent housing.
What is Family First?
In July 2026, Community Homeless Solutions partnered with the Monterey County Office of Education (MCOE) and the Coalition of Homeless Service Providers (CHSP) to launch Family First — a program built to support families experiencing homelessness across Monterey County.
MCOE identifies homeless families and refers them into the program through CHSP's Coordinated Entry System. MCOE handles initial intake, secures emergency and temporary shelter, and begins wrap-around services. CHSolutions then steps in to maintain safe, stable transitional housing while working alongside each family to identify and secure permanent housing.
Beyond housing, families receive comprehensive supportive services designed to overcome barriers to housing and build long-term stability, independence, and self-sufficiency.
Program Structure
Identification & Referral
MCOE identifies families experiencing homelessness and refers them into the program through CHSP's Coordinated Entry System.
Intake & Emergency Shelter
MCOE provides initial intake, identifies emergency and temporary shelter, and begins wrap-around services.
Case Management
Each family is paired with a dedicated case manager who builds an individualized housing and service plan and provides ongoing guidance.
Housing Navigation
Families receive help identifying housing opportunities, completing rental applications, communicating with landlords, and accessing financial resources.
Supportive Services
Referrals to healthcare, mental health, and community-based resources support the health and well-being of every household member.
Permanent Housing
CHSolutions works with families to secure permanent housing and build the foundation for a healthier, more stable future.
