About the Program

Safe Shelter, Around the Clock

Community Homeless Solutions operates two confidential domestic violence emergency shelters serving individuals and families throughout the Salinas Valley and Monterey Peninsula. Open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, our shelters provide a safe, supportive environment for single women, women with children, and men experiencing domestic violence.

Hamilton House on the Monterey Peninsula offers 16 beds, while the Natividad Shelter in the Salinas Valley provides 32 beds. Both operate around the clock, with stays typically ranging from 30 to 90 days. At both locations, the safety, privacy, and well-being of every guest are our highest priorities.

Beyond emergency shelter, we offer comprehensive, trauma-informed services designed to help survivors move from crisis to stability and long-term self-sufficiency. Our bilingual program director and DV advocates staff two 24-hour crisis lines, providing safety planning, crisis intervention, advocacy, case management, and referrals to community resources.

Through compassionate, culturally responsive support, our team helps survivors overcome the physical and emotional effects of abuse, strengthen their independence, and build the skills and confidence needed to achieve lasting safety and stability.

Understanding Abuse

What Is Domestic Violence?

Domestic violence or abuse is a pattern of behaviors used to gain power and control over a partner or family member. It can include physical, emotional, psychological, sexual, financial, or verbal abuse, as well as threats, intimidation, or other actions that make someone feel afraid, isolated, or controlled. People who experience domestic violence may be blamed, humiliated, manipulated, or prevented from making their own choices. Abuse often happens repeatedly and may become more frequent or more severe over time.

Domestic violence can happen to anyone, regardless of age, race, gender, sexual orientation, income, or background. Everyone deserves to feel safe, respected, and supported.

How It Works

Making a Referral

Reach out

Referrals may be made by anyone, including self-referrals, by calling one of our 24-hour helplines.

Phone intake

The person being referred must speak with one of our staff for an initial phone intake.

In-person interview

An in-person interview is scheduled, and the applicant may be admitted at that time.

Priority response

People fleeing domestic violence are prioritized; law enforcement reporting the crime may accompany the victim directly to a confidential location.

Voices from DV Shelters

Client Testimonials

"

CHSolutions has helped me in many ways so far. Having shelter and consistency has helped with my mental health and feeling of safety. I have worked with my case manager to stay accountable for my actions, and most importantly my plan to change my situation.

"

This program helped my daughter and I at a time when we had nowhere else to go… Thanks to this shelter [CHSolutions], and the wonderful people who work here, we didn’t have to go through the stress of not knowing where to sleep. The feelings of safety and stability are not what I was expecting to find at a homeless shelter, but I am so grateful for that.
