About the Program

Safe Shelter, Real Support

The H.O.M.E. Resource Center (HRC) opened on December 1, 2017, as a shelter, outreach, and supportive services for individuals experiencing homelessness in San Benito County. In addition to a secure place to stay, guests receive nutritious meals, access to food, and a personal locker to safely store their belongings while participating in the program.

The shelter also offers essential amenities — including restrooms, showers, laundry facilities, and hygiene products — helping guests maintain their health, dignity, and well-being. Beyond shelter services, HRC's dedicated outreach team actively engages with unsheltered community members throughout San Benito County, connecting them with critical resources and pathways toward stable housing.

Community Outreach

Meeting People Where They Are

Four times each month, HRC deploys a dedicated outreach team to engage with individuals experiencing homelessness throughout the community — building trust, addressing immediate needs, and connecting people with critical resources.

Immediate outreach help, which may include a referral to an emergency shelter for a place to sleep, wash, and eat

Case-planning help to get identification, receive income assistance, and set housing goals

Connections with culturally appropriate services and/or Indigenous community linkages

Assistance finding housing options and support through the application and move-in process — outreach workers may accompany guests to appointments or housing viewings

References to support services such as health care, counseling, and addiction recovery

Help with more permanent housing options, including supportive and subsidized housing

Serving as a resource for housing providers or landlords, answering their questions and concerns

Ongoing support as required

"It is essential to build strong relationships and understand the individual's circumstances and needs. Many people may have barriers that prevent them from accessing services. It is important to get out there and link them with the resources they need to move off the streets."
